The LG washing machine filled with water as usual, started spinning the drum, but after a while it stopped washing and displayed the tE error on the screen. If you touch the hatch at this point, you will find that it is cold, even if you selected the washing mode in very hot water. The tE error, translated from English as "temperature error", means that there was a failure in heating the water. If the LG washing machine does not have a display, then the error will be signaled by all temperature sensors constantly lit or simultaneously blinking.

The cause of the error may be the failure of one of the internal components:

  • Heating element (TEN).
  • Electrical wiring.
  • Thermistor.
  • Control module.

Please note that the tE error does not indicate a specific part of the breakdown; to fix the problem and carry out repairs, you will need to consistently check all elements of the heating circuit. For diagnostics and repairs, it is better to contact the LG service center, as special equipment and partial disassembly of the washing machine will be required.

Before calling a technician, rule out a short-term software failure that could have occurred due to a power surge. To do this, turn off the LG washing machine and disconnect it from the power source for 15-20 minutes. After that, turn it on and start the wash again. If the display shows the tE error again, then the problem is still in the failure of the internal unit.

To access the heating circuit, simply remove the back cover of the washing machine. But before you begin disassembling the machine, you should drain the remaining water from it using the emergency water drain hose. If the tE error occurs, you can also drain the water by starting the machine and selecting the cold-water wash mode. Let's look at the causes of the error in more detail.

Most often, when the tE error occurs, the heating element needs to be replaced. In this case, the LG washing machine cannot heat the water to the set temperature. The heating element may fail if there is hard water in the house, which contains a lot of calcium. In this case, scale formation on the heating element cannot be avoided. The heating element begins to constantly overheat and, as a result, stops heating at all. To avoid such a situation with the heating element, it is necessary to regularly clean the LG washing machine from scale. If the heating element breaks down, the part is replaced with a new one.

Another reason for the tE error may be damaged wiring in the area between the heating element and the control module. In this case, check the wiring in the entire area for damage. If there is a cable that has frayed, solder and insulate it.

If the thermistor or temperature sensor that measures the water temperature is out of order, you will also see an error. In this case, the washing machine cannot determine whether the water is heated to the required level or not, and heating does not occur. The water temperature sensor or pressure switch is located either on the heating element or directly in the tank.

Another reason for the error is a malfunction of the control module. A breakdown of the washing machine control unit may be due to voltage surges, moisture or mechanical damage. Sometimes, repairs on the control board require reflashing the microcircuits, and sometimes reprogramming or a complete replacement of the board. Only a specialist can identify the exact cause of the error, as well as perform repairs, so you should contact the LG washing machine service center.
