F20 Error in a Bosch washing machine

If error F20 appears on the display of the Bosch electronic washing machine, this means that unplanned water heating has occurred. That is, a washing program was selected at a low temperature - 30-40 degrees, but for some reason the water heats up. It is easy to recognize such a problem. It manifests itself in the fact that the linen after washing looks faded, the fabric rolls, shrinks. This means that the temperature is not the same as the mode suggests.

An electromechanical washing machine reports such an incorrectness by flashing indicators showing the number of spin revolutions. Experts say that an unplanned operation of a heating element is a critical failure. If such an error occurs, you cannot keep the machine turned on, otherwise a short circuit or even a fire may occur.

Troubleshooting

Usually, when error code F20 appears, the washing machine stops in the middle of the process. When you press any of the buttons, nothing happens. Do not rush to immediately contact the service center, because you can fix the breakdown on your own if nothing critical has happened.

The first step is to turn off the machine, that is, pull the plug from the outlet. If the error has already appeared during the washing process, then the hatch will remain blocked. Sometimes the code does not appear immediately, but the machine feels very hot, and its walls become hot, even if washing in cold water is selected. Then it must also be turned off immediately.

Try resetting the error by restarting the washing machine. To do this, after disconnecting the unit from the network, let it stand for 10-15 minutes, and then turn it on again. If the program starts, the walls are not hot, and the code does not appear on the display - everything is in order.

When the error remains

If even after restarting the F20 error is present, then one of the elements of the washing machine is faulty. This code is broken:

  • TENA relay. The thermostat that detects the temperature of the water should give the board a signal to turn off the heater when the low temperature program is selected. If the relay is out of order, then the signal is not received, and the heating element performs its functions as usual.
  • Temperature sensor. Most often, it breaks due to the accumulation of scale, which prevents the element from functioning normally. Burnout can also be the cause.
  • control module. This is the most expensive and significant component in a washing machine. If the reason is simply burnt out or oxidized contacts, they can be resoldered or replaced.

Rarely, but sometimes the failure of the software module cannot be eliminated, only a complete replacement of the unit will help.
